Herzog Output Switching Questions - FabTone - 11-02-2024 Hi Kevin, I have one of those generic made in Canada 'WidowMaker' amps. I used two 5VAC secondary filament transformers reverse back-to-back as an isolation option to make it a little bit safer to operate. Works fine, sounds as you would expect - cheap and low-fi but a useable 'raunchy' tone, easy break up with almost any volume increase. I also wired it temporarily as a Herzog style overdrive and that worked too. I would like to wire it to use one of the three input 1/4" phono jacks on the top panel as the TUT3 Herzog Output (the 3rd input as Output Vol) but I can't figure out how to use a new TRS jack to switch from internally wired-to-speaker to Herzog output. I do not need a bypass switch, just used by default as a combo amp and switched to a Herzog Output. Hopefully you may have some suggestions please? RE: Herzog Output Switching Questions - nauta - 11-02-2024 Hi Fab Tone I think even I know the answer to this one ![]() The 1/4 inch jack has a closed contact on the tip so you wire the speaker to that and the output of the amp to the tip. then ground is ground. Took me a minute to figure out what a widowmaker amp is haha Peace RE: Herzog Output Switching Questions - FabTone - 11-02-2024 This 'Lark Guitar Amplifier' schematic is very similar to the Pepco or Pine manufactured version I have. ![]() The challenge with the Herzog switching circuit in TUT3 is it's for a speaker 1/4" output jack and this amp has none - its wired internally to/from a terminal strip. I could drill a hole in the back panel, install a TRS and use long leads to/from the TRS to the terminal strip and the speaker - but I don't want to be that invasive. I can't figure out how to use a TRS mounted on the top panel as a Herzog output jack, not to a speaker jack. The 150ohm attenuation resistor wired between the Herzog out jack and the wiper of the 1Ma Output Volume pot in parallel with the 10W 6R8 resistor to the output transformer 0 and 8ohm taps needs to be re-wired so the Ring disconnects the internal speaker, not the 6R8 pwr resistor - it's hard to explain without posting Kevin's pics from TUT3. Thanks for your reply! RE: Herzog Output Switching Questions - makinrose - 11-02-2024 To do that you must have a speaker jack (TRS) that has the load resistor on the ring and sleeve so that you unplug the speaker the OT has a load on it since the tip will connect to the sleeve when you unplug. You will have a separate output jack for the line out that is active at all times. RE: Herzog Output Switching Questions - FabTone - 11-04-2024 Thanks, but I already have a working Herzog built from TUT3 so I'm familiar with the TRS switching options on page 16-3. Not what I'm asking about. I think I might be able to do what I want with a TRRS switch so I can use a top-panel jack to both engage the Line out for standard Herzog use while simultaneously disengaging the internal speaker. |
